EastMont Tomato Festival!

At the Mockingbird, we are beyond excited that it's Tomato Festival time again! Part of this is because someone else is frying the green tomatoes and they really know what they're doing and the other part is rejoicing over getting to judge folks' tomato creations. There are contests for every aspect of tomato love - BBQ sauce, ketchup, tomato sauce, salsa - and Mockingbird baker, Donna Capozzi Speaks, will be spending her lunch hour sampling and deciding whose recipe rocks!

There's also Tomato Pageant royalty to be crowned and vendors selling their wares, plus tomato artwork on display and a few years ago, we scored a copy of the festival cookbook with all kinds of great ways to enjoy tomatoes. Enter a contest and your recipe could end up in there!

If you don't see yourself on stage, you might be lucky enough to find a position as a lady-in-waiting to a would-be king or queen.

Those gowns don't put themselves together!

If you're wondering what to do with that interesting specimen growing in your own garden, there are also contests for biggest and funniest looking tomato. It goes without saying that there is a tomato eating contest and this year, real people will be playing real music, pretty much all day long. For more information, go here:

The festival is located at the Meadowbrook Center in Shawsville and the folks there are really nice and lots of fun. Now, to find just the right thing to wear. Hmm, there's a clean white shirt...
